Unfortunately Conal Fitzpatrick has only made one cameo this year. This is a pity since he's fun to write. As he was last year, he's been staying in the unrentable 304, which doubles as the Fitzpatrick's guest house. Now that shore leave his is over, Rowan is moving in.

For a while I was worrying how to handle Conal. I had flat out said that his holiday leave ended at New Years and I wanted to spell out that he had shipped out. To a certain extent I probably shouldn't have worried. He's a secondary character and I probably would have gotten away with him just disappearing for a year of more but I think this covers things nicely.

This week begins the continued introduction of minor characters. In this case Brian's younger brother, Conal. It's interesting, for the longest time I merely had him as a note about the Fitzpatricks which said: "the youngest son is in the military" and the instant I gave him a name he started writing himself and not in the way I expected.
