We Can Work With That

Today's Strip

And just to make it clear what Olive is talking about, Kate was dressed like this.

Two Really Long Weeks

Today's Strip

I had the Department Of Minor Nuisances mess with the time stream in order to get as much bang for their buck in catching up with their paperwork, but I don't think I ever figured out how long they were gone in real time. For a while I had been saying a month... But two weeks is funnier.

So Why DIdn't You Call Me?

Today's Strip

Sometimes the problem of real time versus comic time sneak up to you. The way the story was going it almost caught me by surprise when I realized that, not counting the Halloween party, Paul and Nancy hadn't talked for a year after "the development in their relationship"

Hummingbirds!

Today's Strip

We don't know the details about the Hummingbird Incident but it seemed to have a lasting effect on Gage.

You Were Wearing A Wig

Today's Strip

The last time Paul and Nancy talked she was dressed like this. I think we can forgive Paul for missing the new hairstyle.

Mister You Better Be Worth It.

Today's Strip

Nancy and Michelle first inflicted that dress on Kate here. Other than this rather forced nod to continuity I really have no excuse for Kate to act out of character and participate in this bit of cheap fanservice.

I do not need a Slurpee!

It looks like Gage can be taught. The Last time Fedya used this one on him was here.

I'm All About Sacrifice.

Today's Strip

I can't help noticing, in strips like these, Is how the limitations of strip time and strip continuity come back to bite you. Since a strip only allows you what is on average five minutes of time a day, time does weird things and there's only so much you can do about it. As far as the strip is concerned the last time Paul and Nancy spoke was Halloween 2008, the last time they went out together was a year before that watching the final game of the World Series. Heck one year I was almost relieved that I wouldn't be able to do a Valentine's Day story line because as far as continuity was concerned it would mean that Valentine's day had happened twice in one month. As time goes by you learn to imply that time is passing and that there are things going on off camera, but the problem still comes up as a stumbling block more times then I'd like.

How Much Business Can We Loose in Fifteen Minutes

Today's Strip

For everyone keeping up, Kevin got the gift certificate for Lysistrata here and he's been trying to spend it or has missed the opportunity to be at the store when certain junior clerks are working ever since.

And for everyone keeping track, this is the second time Kevin has missed the cute girl with the strangely familiar Devonshire accent.

Magical Girl

Today's Strip

And at risk of becoming far too dependent on continuity, Kevin got his present here.

Ten Tons of Sugarcane

Todays Strip

Sorry, I did it again. Wrote a strip which requires knowledge of the archives for full appreciation. For everybody new, the full context is here.

Continuity Error

After finishing today's cartoon I noticed what appeared to be a grievous continuity error. Blossom is sitting behind the store counter in a nice cozy office chair when for all of the history of the strip Lysistrata has only had stools... Well it's like this. Along with getting a new employee, Kate used the proceeds from Havana Sunset to get a nice ergonomic chair for the store...

Honest.

Time Passes

It just occurred to me while finishing Monday's strip is just how time passes in this comic strip. I'm not getting into the age old question of whether a character should age normally or not it's just the question of just how much time is passing. For example In this strip Paul tells us that he's been living in the northwest for a year... I've had Rhapsodies on line since November 2004. For that matter Kate's book tour is supposedly just three weeks long. However in real time she's been on the road since February (I'm still kicking myself for flat out saying three weeks in the Valentine's day strip Where we can all see the joke is taking place on that day.) for that matter I've had several storylines that took over a month to do that all took place on the same day... I know there's not much I can do to get around it but it jus irks the perfectionist in me.

Oh and on a lighter note I have to apologize for Monday's joke. it consists of something I try to avoid that being a joke that is completely dependent on being familiar with another strip for it to be funny. In this case Wednesday's strip 6/20/2007.
